Step 1: Place the grits, chicken broth, garlic powder and salt and pepper in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
Step 2: Cook, stirring, over moderate heat until mixture thickens.
Step 3: Take off the heat and stir in chopped or shredded cheeses with the butter until it all melts and incorporates.
Step 4: Whisk together the eggs and milk, then quickly whisk that into the grits.
Step 5: Pour mixture into a buttered baking dish (square or rectangular) that holds about 6-8 cups.
Step 6: Top with more shredded cheese if you like, but it doesn't need it.
Step 7: Bake at 350F for 40-50 minutes or until a knife comes out clean and it is set.
