Step 1: Combine the melted butter and brown sugar in a baking dish.
Step 2: Arrange the bread slices in the dish.
Step 3: Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger and salt in a bowl; pour over the bread,letting it soak in, and top with pecans.
Step 4: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 3 hours up to 12 hours.
Step 5: Preheat the oven to 350º, and let the chilled casserole stand at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Step 6: Bake until browned and set, 30-45 minutes.
Step 7: Remove to a rack to cool slightly. Sift over confectioner's sugar.
Step 8: Serve hot or warm with sorghum, cane or maple syrup.
