Step 1: Melt the butter and chocolate over low heat in a 5 or 6 qt saucepan stirring constantly
Step 2: Remove from heat and stir in sugar and let cool a bit
Step 3: Add eggs one at a time beating with a wooden spoon after each addition until well blended
Step 4: Add flour, vanilla and salt and stir well
Step 5: If adding nuts add them in now to mixture and mix well
Step 6: Pour mixture in a buttered 13 x 9 pan in a preheated oven at 350 for 30 - 35 minutes
Step 7: Brownies will be done when you insert a toothpick in the center and it comes out clean. Cool pan on wire rack and enjoy
