Step 1: Combine water, sugar, and 2 ounces basil in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. When the liquid boils, turn heat down to low; simmer for about 5 minutes. Sugar should be completely dissolved.
Step 2: Cover with a plate or foil and set the saucepan in the refrigerator. Chill thoroughly (about 1 hour) then strain through a colander into a pitcher.
Step 3: Add gin, lemon juice, the rest of the basil, and sliced lemon and orange. Serve over ice.
