Step 1: In a medium-size pan combine 2 1/2 cups water and sugar, and cook over medium heat. Stir until sugar has dissolved and then simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and cool about 20 minutes.
Step 2: Add the juices to the sugar syrup, then pour lemon-lime mixture into a large container with a lid. If using mint, place leaves in the container and push leaves down into the mix with a large spoon, and allow to steep for 1 hour, then strain mixture, and store until ready to serve. If not using mint, refrigerate.
Step 3: When ready to serve, mix the lemonade syrup with 6-8 cups of cold water. Start with 6 cups and then adjust the water according to your taste. (6 cups will be very sweet and 8 cups will be quite mild in flavor and sweetness).
