Step 1: Bring ham to room temperature, sitting out for 2 hours.
Step 2: Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
Step 3: Score ham with a sharp knife in a diamond shape pattern, cutting diagonally in one direction, then diagonally in the other direction, keeping the rows about 1 1/2 inches wide going in both directions to make a diamond shape. Insert whole cloves inside the diamonds.
Step 4: Place ham in a large roasting pan fat side up, so the fat will baste your ham as it melts. If cooking a half ham, flat side is down.
Step 5: Turn ham over half way through baking time to avoid uneven salting from the brine in the meat. (Do not do if you are cooking a half ham).
Step 6: If the ham is not precooked, bake for approximately 20-30 minutes per pound.
Step 7: If the ham is precooked, follow the label directions for cooking time.
Step 8: While ham is roasting, combine all the rest of the ingredients in a small sauce pan. Cook over medium heat, bringing to a full boil. Stir frequently. When it comes to a full boil, reduce heat and cook one minute.
Step 9: Thirty minutes before ham is done, remove ham from oven. Cover ham with glaze, and glaze ham every 10 minutes during the last 30 minutes of baking.
Step 10: Serve remaining glaze on the side with the ham.
