Step 1: Place the potatoes, carrots, bay leaves and crushed garlic in a large pot and cover with water.
Step 2: Bring to a boil and cook until fork tender.
Step 3: Drain water from potatoes and remove bay leaves.
Step 4: Add butter, milk, salt and pepper and mash to desired consistency.
Step 5: Serve with your favourite main dish.
