Step 1: In a large skillet, combine balsamic vinegar and water. Place bratwurst in the water; cover, and simmer 10 minutes. Be sure the water is only simmering, NOT boiling.
Step 2: Add the sliced onions and continue simmering, uncovered, until the water evaporates and the onion is caramelized.
