Step 1: Wash, peel (optional), and core the apples. Slice them into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch thick.
Step 2: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Step 3: Add the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt to the melted butter. Stir to combine.
Step 4: Add the apple slices to the skillet and gently toss to coat them in the butter and sugar mixture.
Step 5: Cook the apples for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften and caramelize. The edges should turn golden brown.
Step 6: While the apples are cooking, combine the bourbon, maple syrup, lemon juice, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Stir until well combined.
Step 7: Carefully pour the bourbon glaze mixture over the caramelized apple slices in the skillet.
Step 8: Gently stir to coat the apples with the glaze. Continue cooking for an additional 5-8 minutes, allowing the glaze to thicken and the alcohol to cook off.
Step 9: Once the apples are tender and glazed, remove the skillet from the heat.
Step 10: Serve warm, for best flavor and texture.
