Step 1: Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the cooked pasta and set it aside.
Step 2: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
Step 3: Add the bell pepper, mushrooms, and zucchini to the skillet. Sauté the vegetables for about 5 minutes, or until they start to soften.
Step 4: Incorporate the diced chicken or tofu into the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the protein to heat through.
Step 5: Pour the marinara sauce into the skillet and sprinkle in the dried oregano. Stir well to combine all the ingredients. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 6: Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss it gently with the sauce and vegetables until everything is well coated. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes, or until the pasta is heated through.
Step 7: Remove the skillet from the heat and transfer the Zombie Guts Pasta to serving plates. Garnish with fresh basil leaves for an extra touch of freshness.
