Step 1: In a glass jar or container with a tight-fitting lid, combine the fresh cherries and rum. Close the lid tightly and give it a good shake to ensure the cherries are well coated in the rum. Let the cherries soak in the rum for at least 1 hour, or ideally overnight in the refrigerator to infuse the flavors.
Step 2: Once the cherries are infused, strain them from the rum, reserving both the cherries and the rum separately.
Step 3: In a cocktail shaker, add the cherry liqueur, lime juice, simple syrup, and about 1 tablespoon of the rum from the soaked cherries.
Step 4: Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to chill the mixture.
Step 5: Strain the cocktail mixture into a glass filled with ice cubes.
Step 6: Drop a few of the rum-soaked cherries into the glass. You can also skewer a few cherries and use them as a garnish.
Step 7: If desired, top the cocktail with a splash of club soda or sparkling water for some effervescence.
Step 8: Garnish the cocktail with a lime slice or additional cherries.
Step 9: Give the cocktail a gentle stir before sipping and enjoy the delightful combination of rum-soaked cherries with the cherry liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup.
