Step 1: In a cast iron skillet
Step 2: Melt the butter over medium high heat.
Step 3: Add the sliced onions and brown sugar and cook for about 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
Step 4: Cook until they are caramelized or a golden brown color.
Step 5: Add the red wine and herbs and bring to a rapid boil.
Step 6: Reduce heat to a simmer for about 10 minutes.
Step 7: Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, salt, pepper and balsamic vinegar and bring to a boil.
Step 8: Reduce the heat to a low simmer and cover.
Step 9: Cook covered for about 20 minutes or until thickened.
