Step 1: Grease a large bowl with shortening set aside.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, add the yeast, warm milk, melted butter, sugar, salt and egg. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
Step 3: Add the all-purpose flour; beat for 2 minutes more.
Step 4: Stir in bread flour and mix well. (You may need to add a little more flour if the batter is too sticky).
Step 5: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead the dough for about 10 minutes.
Step 6: Form the dough into a smooth ball and place it into the greased bowl, turning the dough over so that both sides are greased. Cover with a piece of plastic wrap. Let dough rise in a warm place until doubled; approximately 1 hour depending on the warmth of the area.
Step 7: Grease three 9 or 8-inch cake pans.
Step 8: Divide the dough into 3 parts. Shape the dough into pans. Make light impressions into the dough with a fork. Add the topping.
Step 9: In a small microwaveable safe dish, melt the butter. Brush the butter on top of the dough.
Step 10: In a small bowl combine the sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle sugar-cinnamon mixture over the buttered dough.
Step 11: Cover pans with a towel and let rise until double about 30 minutes.
Step 12: Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Step 13: Bake in a 325 degree oven for 25-30 minutes.
Step 14: Remove from oven and cool on a rack.
Step 15: Serve warm with coffee.
