Step 1: Combine strawberries, rhubarb, sugar, flour, salt and spices. Toss to mix thoroughly.
Step 2: Turn fruit mixture into an 8-inch square baking dish and dot with butter. Cover pastry, turning the edges of the pastry under and sealing them to the dish.
Step 3: Slash pastry to allow steam to escape. Brush lightly with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
Step 4: Bake at 400°F about 45 minutes. Serve slightly warm, with ice cream.
