Step 1: Soak beans overnight
Step 2: Next morning
Step 3: Cook the ham hocks for 2 hours in stockpot
Step 4: Remove the hocks
Step 5: Drain beans add to ham water
Step 6: Add vegetables and seasonings
Step 7: Simmer for 2 hours
Step 8: Mash lightly
Step 9: Add ham that you have cubed
Step 10: Season to taste
Step 11: Add milk and butter at end cook just until warm
