Step 1: In large saucepan sauté onion and garlic in oil.
Step 2: Add spices. Cook over low heat 4 minutes.
Step 3: Add rice and lentils. Mix well.
Step 4: Add water. Bring to a boil.
Step 5: Lower heat. Cook 45-50 minutes, covered, until rice and lentils are tender.
