Step 1: In a large pot over medium heat melt the butter and then add the next 5 ingredients (-rosemary) and cook stirring for 10 minutes or until onion is soft.
Step 2: Stir in potatoes and season with salt and pepper and cook stirring for 3-5 minutes. Stir in broth and 4 cups of water and bring to a simmer, cover and cook on low to maintain a simmer. Cook for 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
Step 3: Mash potatoes until they begin breaking down and thicken the soup. Stir in cabbage and simmer for another 10 minutes.
