Step 1: Cover ham bone with about 8 cups water in large pot.
Step 2: Tie spices into cheesecloth and add to pot.
Step 3: Bring to boil, take off scum, and simmer about 1 hour; take out ham bone.
Step 4: Add vegetables and cook another hour. (If using farmer's sausage...add with veggies)
Step 5: While vegetables are cooking and after ham has cooled somewhat, remove ham from bone, chop into bite size pieces and return to pot.
Step 6: About ½ hour before it’s done, add a handful of summer savory, tied together for easy removal.
Step 7: Adjust flavors with bouillon if needed.
Step 8: Add ½ cup sweet cream or sour cream, before serving.
