Step 1: In a medium saucepan, stir pudding mix into 2 cups milk with wire whisk.
Step 2: Stirring constantly, cook on medium heat.
Step 3: Add chocolate chips while heating, stirring until they are melted. Continue cooking until mixture comes to full boil.
Step 4: Remove from heat; add butter and vanilla.
Step 5: Put lid on pot and let sit for 5 minutes.
Step 6: Stir and pour into a plain pie crust and refrigerate until set.
Step 7: Serve with whipped cream or cool whip.
