Step 1: Preheat oven to 375'.
Step 2: Sift brown sugar.
Step 3: Beat butter till soft and gradually add to the brown sugar.
Step 4: Blend until very light and creamy.
Step 5: Beat in the egg and the coffee.
Step 6: Resift the flour with the cinnamon, cloves, and soda.
Step 7: Add the sifted ingredients to the butter mixture.
Step 8: Beat batter until smooth.
Step 9: Stir in the raisins and nuts.
Step 10: Drop batter from a teaspoon onto a greased sheet, leaving enough space between cookies for expansion.
Step 11: Bake about 15 minutes at 375.
Step 12: Let cool on wire rack.
