Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- Dates, nuts, candied or maraschino cherries, or chocolate pieces
- FOR ICING
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Food coloring
- Chocolate Icing
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 2 tablespoon milk
- 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate (melted)
How to Make

Step 1: Heat oven to 350.

Step 2: Mix butter, sugar, and vanilla.

Step 3: Work in flour and salt until dough holds together (if dough is dry, mix in 1 to 2 tablespoons light cream).

Step 4: Mold by the tablespoonfuls around date, nut, cherry or chocolate pieces.

Step 5: Place cookies 1-inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.

Step 6: Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until set but not browned.

Step 7: To make either icing, combine all ingredients and mix till smooth.

Step 8: Decorate cookies by dipping tops of cookies in icing of choice and sprinkle with colored sugar, candies, coconut, etc.
