Step 1: Thoroughly mix butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla
Step 2: Add flour, salt, baking soda and nuts. Mix well
Step 3: Divide dough into 3 equal parts and shape into roll 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 7 inches long
Step 4: Wrap each roll and refrigerate 1 hour
Step 5: Heat oven to 400
Step 6: Cut rolls into 1/8 inch slices
Step 7: Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet
Step 8: Place 1 teaspoon jam or jelly in center of half of the slices. Top with remaining slices and seal edges. Cut slits in top, so filling shows
Step 9: Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown
Step 10: Immediately remove from baking sheet
