Step 1: Thoroughly mix sugar, cornstarch and salt in a saucepan.
Step 2: Stir milk into egg yolks and mix well.
Step 3: Gradually stir egg mixture into dry ingredients.
Step 4: Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.
Step 5: Boil and stir 1 minute.
Step 6: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, almond extract, and toasted almonds.
Step 7: Cool and use to fill 8 or 9 inch cake.
