Step 1: Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat and add onion, carrot, celery, garlic and thyme and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes and then add stock and tomatoes and bring to the boil and then add macaroni, then cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
Step 2: Stir in beans and cabbage and cook for a further 10 minutes.
Step 3: Season and stir in half of the parsley.
Step 4: Ladle into serving bowls and top with reserved parsley and parmesan and serve with crusty bread or garlic bread.
