Chocolate Chip Chiffon Cake

Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cup cake flour (or 2 cups all purpose flour)
- 1 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup oil (salad oil)
- 5 egg yolks (7 if using all purpose flour)
- 3/4 cup water, cold
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 cup egg whites (7-8 eggs approximately)
- 1/2 teaspoon cream or tartar
- 3 ounces semisweet chocolate (grated)
How to Make

Step 1: Heat oven to 325 degrees.

Step 2: Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Step 3: Make a well and add oil, egg yolks, water, and vanilla, stir till smooth.

Step 4: In a separate bowl combine cream or tartar and egg whites. Beat until stiff peaks form.

Step 5: Gradually add batter to egg whites, folding together just until blended.

Step 6: Gently fold in chocolate.

Step 7: Pour into ungreased tube pan.

Step 8: Bake 75 minutes, or until top springs back when touched lightly.

Step 9: Invert tube pan on a funnel and leave toll completely cool.

Step 10: Frost as desired.
