Ingredients
- FOR THE CAKE
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 1 large egg
- FOR THE TOPPING
- 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
How to Make

Step 1: Grease and flour 9-inch round or 8-inch square pan.

Step 2: In small bowl, combine all cake ingredients.

Step 3: Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 2 minutes at medium speed.

Step 4: Pour batter into greased and floured pan.

Step 5: In small bowl, combine all topping ingredients; blend well.

Step 6: Sprinkle over batter.

Step 7: Cover; refrigerate overnight.

Step 8: Heat oven to 350°F

Step 9: Uncover coffee cake.

Step 10: Bake for 25 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
