Step 1: Combine ingredients in a crockpot.
Step 2: Cook on high about 12-18 hours.
Step 3: Sometimes it takes longer, depending on thickness of the applesauce.
Step 4: Cook until it turns dark brown and thickens.
Step 5: Old time cooks recommend adding 2 Tablespoons of cider vinegar at the end of cooking (you can use lemon juice). I personally have never added vinegar, I felt the spices and red hots are a lovely blend just as the recipe calls.
Step 6: It can be stored in the refrigerator or canned in a water bath for 20 minutes.
