Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon lard
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
How to Make

Step 1: Melt lard; add to buttermilk.

Step 2: Add egg.

Step 3: Sift flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder together.

Step 4: Beat wet ingredients into dry ingredients.

Step 5: Drop into hot oil by teaspoonfuls. Do NOT Go tablespoons these expand like crazy.and will not get done in the middle. We used cinnamon sugar as topping
