Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Step 2: Pour canned peaches into a 9x13-inch or 17.25x10.75-inch casserole dish (pyrex) (refer to note below). Make sure juices cover peaches , if not add a small amount of water to just cover fruit. Distribute 1/2 cup of the sugar and cinnamon to taste over peaches, carefully mixing it through.
Step 3: Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly over top of peach mixture. Poke holes into cake mix to allow juices to come through some parts. Cut stick of butter into small pats, placing them randomly over the top. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar and a light dusting of the remaining cinnamon.
Step 4: Bake in preheated oven for 55 up 75 minutes, or until the juice mixture is bubbly and the top of the cake mix topping is crusty and golden brown. The timing of the oven depends on your oven and note that the goal it so have the top not soggy but firmish and crunchy. Like most recipes, if under cooking it will not achieve it's end result purpose.
