Step 1: In a 4-QT saucepan saute onion, garlic, peppers, chili powder and cumin in hot oil until tender.
Step 2: Stir in drained beans, undrained tomatoes, lemon, oregano, salt and hot sauce.
Step 3: Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes.
Step 4: Remove lemon slice and puree if desired.
Step 5: Serve with warm tortillas and your choice of toppings. Or, just enjoy as a thick soup with cheddar and a dollop of sour cream. Or on a bed of rice!
