Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9 x 13 pan, preferably either pyrex or a shiny metal pan, definitely not a dark pan. This batter is made by hand, not in a mixer.
Step 2: In microwave, melt butter and chocolate, stirring occasionally.
Step 3: Stir in sugar and cool slightly. Whisk in eggs, then add remaining ingredients (except nuts and chips) and stir no more than 12 strokes.
Step 4: Gently stir in nuts and chocolate chips if using, being careful to not over mix.
Step 5: Bake for 25-35 minutes, depending on pan used and your oven. Pyrex will cook faster than a metal pan.
Step 6: Serve warm with ice cream, yum!
