Step 1: Beat 1 1/2 cup sugar into eggs.
Step 2: Add flour, baking soda & salt and blend thoroughly.
Step 3: Stir in pineapple.
Step 4: Pour into greased 13 x 9-inch metal baking pan.
Step 5: Bake at 350°F about 30-35 minutes until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Step 6: Meanwhile, combine butter, 1 cup sugar & milk in a small saucepan; bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer about 10 min until sugar is dissolved and sauce is thickened.
Step 7: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, coconut & nuts.
Step 8: As soon as cake comes out of oven, spread coconut mixture over the top.
Step 9: Let cool completely before slicing and serving.
