Step 1: Combine sugar and water in a heavy saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Step 2: Reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring, until sugar is dissolved, about 6-8 minutes.
Step 3: Let cool completely, transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate until chilled, at least 4 hours.
