Step 1: Cream butter and sugar; add flavorings.
Step 2: Sift dry ingredients three times. Add dry ingredients and milk, alternately, to the butter mixture. Add nuts.
Step 3: Beat egg whites until stiff and then fold them into the batter.
Step 4: Place batter in a greased and floured 9 x 13 cake pan.
Step 5: Bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 to 60 minutes or until brown.
