Ingredients
- 1 pound raisins
- 1/2 cup lard
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups applesauce
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup gumdrop candy
- 1 cup walnuts
- 1/2 cup dates
- 1/2 cup candied fruit
How to Make

Step 1: Boil together: raisins, lard, applesauce, and 1 cup water. Add sugar, cold water and dry ingredients to hot mixture, mixing well.

Step 2: Stir in the rest of ingredients.

Step 3: Pour into a buttered cake pan.

Step 4: Bake at 325 degrees for 90 minutes or until done.

Step 5: May be served with whipped cream or white (hard) sauce.
