Step 1: Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Step 2: Mix together all dry ingredients, and sift twice(double sifting is VERY IMPORTANT).
Step 3: Cut in shortening until flour looks like crumbly cornmeal or small peas.
Step 4: Add buttermilk and mix just until a ball is formed(you might have to add a bit more flour or buttermilk to get it just right).
Step 5: Knead for at least 3 minutes.
Step 6: On a floured counter top or board,pat dough (don't use a rolling pin) out to 1/2 inch thick.
Step 7: Cut four biscuits out with a floured biscuit cutter,or just pat out to a square and cut into four even pieces.
Step 8: Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet( I used greased parchment paper for easier clean up)and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
