Step 1: Prepare the onion soup pacs according to directions. (leave hot on top of the stove.
Step 2: Heat butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions. Saute until golden brown (8-10 minutes). Add onions to the soup and simmer 10 minutes.
Step 3: Season with pepper.
Step 4: Pour the soup into 8 individual oven-proof soup crocks.
Step 5: Top each with a slice (or two) dry bread slices.
Step 6: Sprinkle with Swiss cheese.
Step 7: Place under the oven broiler. Broil until the cheese melts (about 3-5 minutes).
Step 8: Remove carefully then serve.
