Step 1: In a 2 quart saucepan,add chopped bacon,cook over medium heat until the fat has rendered off and bacon is slightly browned.
Step 2: Then add onion to bacon and cook until softened(if you need extra fat to cook the onion add butter or margarine).
Step 3: Pour green beans with liquid,and the water into bacon/onion mixture.
Step 4: Sprinkle with sugar and mix well.
Step 5: When beans reaches a medium boil,cover with a slightly tilted lid,turn to low and simmer for at least 30 minutes.
