Step 1: Mix cornmeal, salt and baking powder together.
Step 2:
Step 3: Add boiling water and stir well, it will be very stiff (the boiling water will start the cooking process before you fry it).

Step 5: Add egg and milk beat until well mixed. The batter will be stiff and very sticky, this is normal. You can wet hands and shape into submarine shaped ovals and drop into hot oil like Granny did (you must keep hands wet or batter will stick to hands). Or drop by spoon fulls or use a cookie/ice cream scoop.

Step 7: Brown on all sides and remove.

Step 9: Place on paper towels to drain off excess oil.
