  • 2 pounds dates
  • 1 cup candied cherries
  • 1 pound Brazil nuts
  • 1 pound walnuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup cherry juice
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons lard

How to Make

  • Step 1: Melt lard.

  • Step 2: Sift dry ingredients together.

  • Step 3: Beat eggs well.

  • Step 4: Leave dates cherries and nuts whole.

  • Step 5: Mix the fruit and nuts with flour mixture. Add cherry juice and vanilla. Add eggs and lard.

  • Step 6: Bake in 2 lined and greased pans at 300 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours.
