Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a medium sized bowl combine ground beef, panko, parsley, allspice, nutmeg, onion, garlic powder, pepper, salt and egg. Mix until combined.

Tip: if you prefer a springy texture to your meatballs, it can be run in a food processor or using a cake beater.

Step 2

Roll into 12 large meatballs or 20 small meatballs.

Step 3

In a large skillet heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter. Add the meatballs and cook turning continuously until brown on each side and cooked throughout. Transfer to a plate and cover with foil.

Step 4

Add 4 tablespoons butter and flour to skillet and whisk until it turns brown. Slowly stir in broth(s) and heavy cream. Add Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard and bring to a simmer until sauce starts to thicken. Salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5

Add the meatballs back to the skillet and simmer for another 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

Serve over egg noodles, rice or mashed potatoes and garnish with chopped parsley (optional). Serve with a side of lingonberry jam if you'd like.

Step 7

These can also be served as hors d'oeuvres speared with toothpicks.

Very flavorful, tender meatballs. I used breakfast sausage, as mentioned in the introduction. My heavy cream was frozen in the back of the refrigerator, so I subbed sour cream for that -- but otherwise followed as directed. I stirred some whole wheat noodles into the sauce to serve with the meatballs and this was DEVOURED. Made for the AmaZ'ing Race 2023 (Denmark).

This is an easy and delicious version of Swedish meatballs. I was able to make this after work and still get to bed on time. Loved the mix of flavors.

Delicious!! We really loved these meatballs, and the sauce was outstanding. My husband kept telling me how much he loved the sauce. He thought it was one of the best Swedish meatball sauces that he has ever had. I'm glad that I doubled the sauce ingredients as it gave him alot of sauce for the meatballs and the noodles that I served the meatballs over. Also, I used 1-1/2 lbs ground beef so I increased the meatball ingredients accordingly and got 18 large meatballs. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe...it is definitely a keeper! **Made for 2017 Culinary Quest - Scandinavia for Smok'in Chefs**

I really enjoyed this. Great sauce for dipping French bread in and I also added a few mushrooms as they needed to be used up. Made for CQ 2017

Nice easy recipe to do though rich and very creamy. The only change I made for dietary reasons was to omit the onion otherwise a good easy week night meal. Thank you ForeverMama made for Billboard Recipe Tag game.
