Step by Step Method

Step 1

Whisk the flour and salt together in a bowl. With a pastry cutter, cut the lard and butter into the flour until the chunks are the size of small peas. Stir in buttermilk and vegetable oil with a fork until the dough is moistened and beginning to gather together. Form the dough into a semi flat ball.

Step 2

Divide the dough in half then shape each half into a ball. Roll out each pie crust between 2 sheets of parchment paper. Place the crusts in the freezer for a few minutes to chill (it makes it easier to peel off the parchment paper or you can freeze the crusts until your ready to bake them I put them on pizza pans to hold their shape).

Step 3

If you want to pre-bake one or both crusts, place in pie plate. Prick the bottom and sides all over with a fork. bake at 450 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
