Step by Step Method

Step 1

Take the skin off of the drumsticks and discard.

Step 2

Mix together the Montreal steak spice and garlic and rub it over the drumsticks.

Step 3

Wrap two slices of bacon around each drumstick and wrap them individually and tightly with a double layer of foil.

Step 4

Place these on a baking sheet and cook in a pre-heated 425 degree Fahrenheit oven for 30 minutes turning them half way through.

Step 5

Carefully unwrap the chicken, if you want the bacon crispier you can place them under the broiler for a couple of minutes until as crispy as you like.

Step 6

If using BBQ sauce, brush the drumsticks with it.

Step 7

Enjoy!

I was nervous to attempt this recipe... it seemed so fancy. But I had pretty good results for my first time! And I learned a lot. First of all, it's WAAAAY easier to pull the skin off the drumstick with a paper towel instead of my clumsy bare hands (so my fingers didn't lose grip). Once I figured that out, removing the skin was a breeze. Second, the broiler can be my friend instead of the "whoops, I burned the food again" monster it typically is for me. I watched it REALLY closely and took it out probably too early for fear of burning the bacon. I have a reputation to overcome. Next time, I'll have more confidence and really let the bacon crisp up more. I served BBQ sauce on the side, since I was scared if I brushed it onto the bacon, I would definitely burn the it (because of the sugar content in the sauce). Thirdly, I should have bought thicker bacon. I used the cheap value pack from Walmart and the bacon kind of rendered away, leaving my poor drumstick naked and unloved in a few places. And who wants naked, unloved chicken on their plate? All in all, a fun cooking experience with better-than-expected results and my kids are taking the leftovers to school for lunch tomorrow to show off what their mama made them for supper. I feel like the big chicken dinner winner tonight. Great recipe, easy to follow instructions, and the Montreal Seasoning was almost as good as the bacon. Almost.

The hardest part of the recipe was taking the skin off until I remembered to use a paper towel...the cook time was spot on and you do...I mean really do want to place them under the broiler or you will be eating raw bacon...I used the bbq option and enjoyed two of the three drums I had...the drumstick hating hubby said he wanted to try one and he ate the whole dang thing...made for "FYC" tag game...

I added Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce, just because we love it so much, and this chickie was divine for sure!

Oh boy these are great! My son and his g/f said I can make these anytime. I made some steak fries and a nice salad to go with the chicken. One enjoyable meal!

I made a large package of chicken legs and tripled the recipe to feed us all. They were great and my family asked me to save this one to our favorites. The chicken was moist and so tasty!

I doubled the recipe so there would be leftovers. My kids ate the first drumstick and immediately grabbed another one. They loved them so we will be having them again!
