Smoked Cheese

Post by Shadows1 » Thu Jun 17, 2021 2:42 pm

Today I am trying to smoke some cheese, I found a method that should work.
The temps outside today are in the 70's and my smoker is in the shade, it is imperative to keep the temp below 95° F. I am using a smoke tube and Pecan pellets for flavor.
I will let you know how it turns out and will post photos and method if it works.

I love smoked cheese...saying that, it was cold smoked and done is an electric smoker. I can just imagine having it done in a real smoker. YUM!!! Hope it works well for you Lee! :-)

Note to self!!!! Use real cheese not cheap stuff and watch the temp closely!!

I have a melty 2 pounds of cheddar, taste is good but....

The temp went to 105° F. Was doing good until I got lazy.
At least the oil in the cheap cheese makes clean up easy.
Was able to save close to one pound, the ants will get the stuff that fell into my water pan and lower racks... just kidding I will clean it up once the smoker cools.
Will try again with good stuff. Not going to post pics of my mess LOL!

An unfortunate learning experience...but so good that you will try it again! And the next time you should have better results. :-)

Ants did not get a thing, cleaned up easy and salvaged some mor for human consumption...dog was happy with what remained LOL!

If I have a failure I always try again that is how you learn. Some of my recipes are 3rd and 4th attempts.

I won't be trying this again until fall, temps are higher in my smoker from the heat we are experiencing then called for near impossible to cold smoke in the summer!
