We have a rainy day here too . . . can see snow on the mountain. Heard that there's about 14 inches of snow at our place up in the mountains! Suppose to get down to mid-30's down here tonight, and maybe freezing tomorrow night. One nasty storm over in CaliforniaFelix4067 wrote:Since the rain that was coming down when I came home last night apparently transitioned to snow later on and there's about 1/2 inch in my yard...I found some beef stew in the freezer. That's really all I want at this point.

Still continues to be cold here at 28F. Snow is to turn into rain tomorrow. Dh did not arrive home last night but is expected this morning.
I am marinating a chicken the recipe says it is Tuscany. Might go out for dinner & the chicken can always be used for sandwiches.
Galley, saw your recipe for the Rum Cake. Easy Peasy so right down my alley. I have some rum from Jamaica to use. Do you recommend I use dark or light rum?
Have not accomplished much on the Christmas front. I did go to the liquor store where they have gift boxes of beers from all over the World. Purchased a few for the males on my list. They went over big time last year.
Chapters/Indigo has a special of 30% off in their stores this week. Thought I would check out the price of my cookbooks I would like to purchase. Maybe they are less then on-line Amazon?

Happy Sat to All!
Back from the farmers market and got some great veggies. My normal list: zucchini, summer squash, mushrooms, brussels, celery, apples, oranges, onions, red and white spuds, grapes, pears, carrots, tomato, cucumbers, celery root and lettuce.
I have a party for Lady #1 today. Just a cocktail/light dinner party for 8. Nothing too fancy. It is very relaxed out by the pool, so casual is the key. Dinner starts at 4
- White sangria or pomegranate martinis
- Creamy French Onion soup with hardly any cream, just a twist on the traditional french onion soup. Served a bit lighter, NO melted cheese topping; a simple bread stick, toasted with just a little parm.
- Fondu, creamy white wine and cheese with the normal dippers. (baby fingerlings, bread, broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms, cauliflower, etc, fruits, baked ham cubes, spicy grilled beef.
- lettuce cups stuffed with a Fall salad, apples, cranberries, walnuts and mixed greens
- small chicken bites, wrapped with bacon and maple syrup and baked
- apple bread pudding (made with leftover apple muffins, right from the store) and a cinnamon spice whipped cream.
I had pork tenderloin on the grill the other night, so tonight is the leftover with a simple pork gravy (and I cheating, a pkg gravy; but I'll add some white wine and fresh herbs). I'm also going to do my quick microwave mashed potatoes and I even cooked up some extra acorn squash when I grilled my pork, so I have some of that. All pretty easy.

Finally found my polenta (yellow course cornmeal), so will be searching for something to serve with it . . . perhaps a shrimp or salmon dish! Oh, think I just talked myself into Shrimp, maybe with a touch of cajun?

I do like the two pork tenderloins in the package. I marinate each one with a different recipe. Then grill.
Galley did ask you a quesion in an above post??????

Love polenta, I have 3 or 4 dishes I love with polenta, a spicy shrimp and a beef ragu. Can't go wrong with anything. I love the firmed cooked polenta too I can slice and sear. It is a nice change from rice.Galley_Wench wrote:Love to read about your menus Kim . . . they all sound so tasty. Wet and cold here . . . down right yukky for Arizona. Can't even see the mountain tops. Would like to get to the farmers market . . . better do it early, as the weather is suppose to deteriorate as the day goes on!

And thanks for the menu compliment. I enjoy cooking and it is fun. Most of dinner is made so I'm pretty set for now. Luckily it is only 8, so not too much. And it is beautiful here, warm and sunny. Sorry the weather isn't better for you. There is nothing nice to create a pool party and the weather doesn't cooperate, so I am grateful for that.
I have to admit, the ladies I cook for - all 3 are so open and easy, I am truly blessed with wonderful clients. They are so easy, open, fun and trusting. A true pleasure to work for. It makes my job so much easier and enjoyable.
