Jellies & Jams

Post by Axe » Sun May 20, 2012 12:09 pm

I'm not sure how many of you heard, but 3 weekends ago, Southern Ontario got SLAMMED with a killing frost which wiped out an estimated 85% of the fruit crop here.

The news reported an estimated $100 million in damage with only 65% of farmers with crop insurance.

*sigh* Guess what..... Last year, we had a company come in and install an orchard. Apple trees, cherries, pears & plumbs. All the blossoms got burnt off in the frost.

Anyway, with all that being said, I'm still going to take a run at making jams & jellies this year for the first time.

What do you guys do? I'm thinking of trying to do some hot pepper jelly!

Hi Axe. I'm sorry about the frost damage. Bummer.

I don't can or preserve at all, but I thought you might be interested in this post on marmalade in a slow cooker:

Sorry, I have no idea. Hopefully another user can chime in here with a solution. :(
