Family Gathering
Planning a family gathering on our August long weekend. Will be making the 'must haves' - the family favourites but as always I like to add new to us recipes. Looking for appetizers as well as as main course and sides. Please share your summer favourites.
Re: Family Gathering
Try my "Smokin Buffalo Chips" ( recipe in my profile ) as a good easy inexpensive appie.

Re: Family Gathering
Seafood a big YES Kim. What I am looking to is having family time which means having trays made up/crock pots at the ready ... this is one weekend where it's a make ahead all ready to go. Planning on the must haves, but as I have always done want to add new to our tried and true. Have Bea's chicken wings and Olives tagged, as for the rest bring on the recipes. I may not be able to get to them all but I will be adding them to my Potluck file ... one cannot have too many potluck recipes.

Searched it out Shadows, going through your recipe and Bergy's review - printed!Shadows1 wrote:Try my "Smokin Buffalo Chips" ( recipe in my profile ) as a good easy inexpensive appie. Added link to recipe.
Not familiar with most chips but will be checking out the bagel chips. Thank you for sharing.
Re: Family Gathering
My favourite go-to recipe is my #recipe3488. Make the filling a day ahead, and you can even cut the cucumbers and scoop the seeds a day ahead (if I do that, I lay a damp paper towel over them in a sealed container so they don't dry out). Then just fill and serve.
The other one I can't seem to make enough of is my #recipe5778.

Re: Family Gathering
Our family and friends favorite is my Cucumber and Onion Salad

Make a lot, because it always disappears fast. I just made some the other day, and I also added some sliced radishes to the base recipe. But it makes the dressing turn pink. Still just a good, though.

Gerry, I love skewers for pot lucks because you can put them together ahead of time and they take no time to cook. I do have 2 new skewer recipes, these are both very spicy so good for those who appreciate heat.
http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/kickin ... icks-13016 (can use beef instead of moose)

Here is another old one with heat

This is another one I make often. It is actually Noo's recipe from the other place. I liked it so much I posted it here. It usually one that strikes up conversation because of it's green colour.

Another pork skewer that is usually a hit

And this shrimp one is another spicy one I broil in the oven but can be made on the grill.
