Come on in and help us celebrate our Canadian Thanksgiving!

Post by Gerry » Wed Oct 02, 2013 4:36 pm

Our Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October, this year our 2013 Thanksgiving holiday falls on October 14th. Being a long weekend that sees most families across Canada gather to celebrate the holiday with family and friends. At our house the Thanksgiving main course remains in place with added offerings from family members much as one does for potlucks.

This year our Thanksgiving gathering will be low key but we will be having our traditional Thanksgiving meal, turkey and dressing a given. While most of us have the givens I am sure we all like to add something new to our holiday menus. Be sure to stop at our Potluck forum and share your special Thanksgiving recipes and photos. Everyone welcome!

My SO and I go over to his Sister's and I'm always asked
bring the following:
Southern Style Mashed Potatoes
" I Did It My Way " Cornbread Dressing
And I've brought this for several Thanksgivings.
Dissie's Bread Machine Dinner Rolls
This was posted on another site and I've made it,
but it's here now.

For small family gatherings a great alternative to turkey is roast chicken, one we are very fond of and makes for great presentation is Orange Rosemary Chicken

Just curious Shapes, did that other poster take credit for recipe? OR did they find it too with their bread machine? It is a great recipe.

I agree it's a great recipe. :D
The poster said in her description, that she found it in
Quick Cooking magazine. And it was posted on other site back
in 2003. I found this over there in 2006.

Thank you Linda and Elsie, great to come in and find the added recipe offerings.

While our Thanksgiving is going to be low key this year, I will be adding one or two new dishes as I have always done. It has become one of our 'family traditons in the making'. So many lovely recipes to choose from I may have to do a recipe draw!

Keep the recipes coming - one can never have too many holiday recipes or meal planning suggestions. We cannot make them all but it makes for a wonderful read and happy planning. Come on in share your favourites Photos welcome. :)
