THANKSGIVING 2024
viewtopic.php?f=142&t=16306
Our Canadian Thanksgiving celebrated on the second Monday in October crept up on me and is almost upon us with the American following through on the fourth Thursday in November.
I was unaware and found it interesting that in Canada the date chosen only goes back to 1957. “From the end of the First World War until 1930, both Armistice Day and Thanksgiving Day were celebrated on the Monday closest to November 11. In 1931, Armistice Day was renamed Remembrance Day and Thanksgiving Day was moved to a Monday in October. Since 1957, Thanksgiving Day has always been held on the second Monday in October”
Our tradition of celebrating is on the Sunday of to allow travel time home for those able to come and these past years Thanksgiving the Sunday holiday meal open house for family and close friends. Makes planning so much easier. This year the holiday meals begin tomorrow. The major shop is done remains the final planning. Givens are turkey and stuffing, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy and of course cranberries, homemade bread and desserts.
Friday will see to pots of soup/chowder, Potato soup/chowder the old fashioned recipe which I have yet to post and another family favourite Chicken corn Chowder, along with freshly baked bread and a charcuterie board.
