Dissie, I have been following your garden and love the 'putting away the bounty' happening at your house as well as those who are sharing their gardens along with you. I did the canning, most years 100 jars of dills as well as sweet pickles, relishes, couple crocks of sauerkraut for cabbage rolls, jams jellies and apples ... tomatoes with our long Saskatchewan winters - I called my tomatoes 'sunshine in a jar' There is nothing like home canned salsa, tomato and spaghetti sauce. Some years 400 jars found their way into our refrigerated cold room along with potatoes, carrots and cabbage. Did I have to? Not – loved every minute of it! Country living made for one lot of company and sharing the produce.

Having left our country lifestyle behind and now living on a lot and a half - three shoulder surgeries later (two of which were in the the past year have curtailed the gardening some for sure as well as the slicing and dicing) But I will be making salsa, a few jars of tomatoes along with the apple crop which will see to apple pie filler for special occasions and packages of of apples ready to go for our family favourite Almost Apple Pie. I no longer can the apple pie filler as it is absolutely freezer friendly and easier with the same great results. I find family are now canning – I really must add our family recipes this coming winter allowing them to find the recipes with a little click.
